One the selected projects was intended to incentivize Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) by developing three Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) floor plans to be licensed to the City for public use (floor plan only, no construction drawings). After analyzing the projects within the “22 in 5” work program, staff and the Housing Liaisons confirmed that three projects were eligible for funding based on the standards set by the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). To develop the City’s grant application, staff analyzed the City’s priority housing projects based on the adopted “22 in 5” work program (how to build 22 affordable units in 5 years) to identify eligible grant activities. The minimum grant award for Del Mar through the SB2 Grant Program was $50,000, and the maximum was $160,000. Specifically, it establishes a permanent source of funding intended to increase the affordable housing stock in California. Senate Bill 2 was part of a 15-bill housing package aimed at addressing the State’s housing shortage and high housing costs.
In March of 2019, the State of California released a Notice of Funding Availability for the Senate Bill 2 (SB2) Planning Grants Program.
